Finished up the wee ice cream truck quilt. Thank you, Heather Ross, for existing.
I saw this in the Salvation Army window a few weekends ago:
The tag on it said $15, but I must have looked particularly unkempt and pathetic that day, because the checker-outer lady said, with charity in her voice, “I’ll let you have it for ten.” I’m not gonna argue. And I’m going to wear that same outfit now whenever I go to thrift stores. The highchair looks cute enough now for a Christmas gift, but just for fun I’m going to put a fresh coat of paint on it and make a new covering. It brings me joy.
And…I keep seeing pictures here and there of some sort of reversible applique-type thing, and I’m trying to do it:
but I have absolutely no idea what I’m doing. Can you see what I’m trying to do here? Do you know where I can find a tutorial on this?
And I’ve found a home for some misfit fabric.

I must have just wanted to spend money that day, I don’t know, but at least it has form now, and is on to more appreciative homes.
What are you doing this weekend? Sewing? Quilting? Cooking? Painting? Sleeping? Gambling?

I garter stitched a 10.5″ x 11″ rectangle using two strands of Lion Brand Fishermen’s 100% wool. (I knit on a knitting loom because I never learned to use needles.)
Fold the completed rectangle in half and seam two sides. The remaining un-seamed side will eventually have a zipper sewn in. You’ll have a pocket now.
Place the pocket in a zippered pillowcase and throw in the washer with a pair of old jeans. Wash using mild wool soap and hot water.
Turn on washer with a low water setting and check your pocket every 5 minutes. Remove it from the wash when it shrinks to the size you want. My bag took about 12-15 minutes.
Anyho, remove from washer and rinse in cold water. Handle gently and blot out water with a thick, absorbent towel. I placed my felted pocket over a square shaped lid to give the pocket shape. The felted bag air-dryed overnight and then I sewed in the zipper.
Easy, peasy lemon squeezy…
Felted loom knitting?! What’s that?! I want to try that! How do I learn that? And…I say modern quilters can use whatever fabric they please (a friend of mine is sewing with old burlap bird seed bags).
Love the quilting on your Wee Ice Cream project and the high chair and cover are adorable.
This weekend, I felted a loom knitted make-up bag for the first time ever. The bag is presently awaiting a zipper…I also received 42 strips of 5.5″ x22″ 30’s repro fabric in the mail. Do modern quilter use 30’s repro fabrics?
Blessings,hc
OK, really, if you wanted me to have another baby, all you had to do was ASK- there was NO NEED to make me such an adorable high chair set…
Ahhh, sew and then cut. Thank you!
I love that quilt. I bought a couple of FQ bundles of Mingle in the same colors.
The ladder and high chair are pretty cool finds. The Salvation Army store down here is pretty “expensive”. I find much cheaper and cooler stuff at the Goodwill and antique shops. That’s so cool that you got a discount on it!
Check out this website for a reverse app tutorial. It’s pretty good.
